guess who's back?

today was a whoopee day for moi.

y? coz i went to watch gentarasa. it's this malay contemporary dance thingie tts held annually..

FuYoO.

the only way to aptly describe it this year is GEMPAK GILER beb. or.. damn happening ah.

this year, to commemorate s'pore's 40th year of independance, the theme surrounded the advancements in the malay community. and also the potential tts not being tapped, to put it mildly. the msg was subtle, unlike the previous gentarasa production.. which left me confused, stunned and bewildered. thankfully, this was lightyears better (don't sue me for voicing my opinion) .as usual, cikgu osman's genius really shone.. it was really fantastic ah.

the starting was the normal bit for cikgu's work.. got panjat-panjat (climb here climb there), lompat-lompat (jump here jump there) and golek-golek (roll here roll there). then, things got interesting when there was a flashback to the raffles times... with all the girls doing very feminine traditional dance steps but with a modern edge..

then things got crazy when a rock guitarist appeared a-la edward van halen (can't help being olde' skool).. it was like an assault on the senses ah. but in a good way.

anw, later on, there was break dancing lah, hip hop lah, wat lah.. but everything was fused with malay dance steps ah. damn friggin genius i tell u. then, sarkasi said (a famous local batik painter) came out to spray this graffitti while ppl were dancing. actuali, i have no idea wat he painted ah.. but.. nehmind. im dumb.

it was damn shioookk ah. and a much needed facelift on a traditional malay dance performance. to the ppl involved in the production, wa caya sama lu ah beb!

aaah.. nearly 3 liao.. tmr is daddy's day!! im gonna make fish & chips.. so i have to find a nice salad recipe now..

ciao chicha!

u know wat?

i was la-di-da-ing at home one fine morning when yan-T called to tell me abt the ntu muslim society freshman camp thingie.. and i'm thinking "hmmmm.... will this be one of those preachy weachy camps? or will it be one of those everything-also-need-to-cheer camps?"

for the record, i dont like both types of camps. i think these type of camps shud be banned for like evryone above 16.

so wat type of camps do i like? well, i dun reali go for those so-called "team building" cheer-here-cheer-there type of camps and i reali dislike those scavenger hunt run-here-run-there-but-no-meaning type of games. however, i do believe in playing games where u can laugh together or like be creative with ur hands and stuff.. like crossdressing or sthg (oh yes.. i love watching a man who is comfortable enough with his sexuality to turn himself into a woman).

i like camps where we have time to learn abt the ppl in our grp. where we get time to talk to them and learn abt their history and stuff (coz camps usually involve being grouped with ppl u dont know).. i also like camps which teach skills, be it in arts, crafts, knotting, survival or wtv. i like camps which serve gd fd.. haha. and i like camps which provide proper shower facilities.

in short, i like camps i can gain frm.. and i dislike lame camps. i like camps with basic comforts- eg. a non-leaky tent and hot water.

anw, i can only clearly remember 2 and 1/2 camps i went for (but did not organise) that i truely enjoyed.

the first was this "Ya Alif" motivation camp organised by 4PM and mendaki. i went for it when i was like in pri 5 or sthg..

the camp was held in selangor ah. and i remembered it clearly coz it was reali soulful, fun-packed with jungle elements and stuff. it was like OBS but in msia ah. so it was raw-er. (fyi, i've nvr been to OBS. pathetic rite?)

then there were like talks on spirituality stuff which reali made me reflect on the way i was living.. and during prayer times, we wud congregate and pray together.. then there wud be short, moving sermons by young ustazs so it wasnt so boring ah. damn fun.

we were divided into tribes and although our ages ranged from 10 to 21, we still gelled together and stuff.

there were two major drawbacks tho.. the food sucked, and we had to bathe in a friggin freezin river.yea. sure bathing in a river sounds cool.. if u do it once or twice.. but we stayed there for like 4 days or sthg.. and we bathed like twice a day. so.. add it up urself.

the second camp i remember was the Dover leadership camp held at ACJC campus. i was sec 2 tt time and the campus was being renovated. i think tt it was one of the most put together, strategic, no expenses spared camp i've ever been to.

the camp itself was great.. we got to play a lot of interesting games because of their facilities (their huge gym and swimming pool and sunken gallery and stuff), the showers were great(their toilets have like 20 shower cubicles or sthg) and the fd was gd(snacks were provided at all times).

we were also split into groups of ppl (cowboys, fairies, vikings etc) and the ppl in my gp were gr8! so, i liked the camp a lot.

the other half camp i liked was the one i attended last wednesday. my pri sch malay dance teacher actuali called to ask me to help be a facilitator for one of the groups. it was called camp riang ria and it was organised by some external ppl ah. the "camp" was for pri sch kids ah.. so it was only like fm 8.30am to 4.30pm..

i was in charge of grp A, which was made up of like.. 24 kids. it was actuali a malay cultural camp where kids gt to learn dikir barat, silat, drama and batik painting. it was reali fun ah.. and i think both the kids and myself learnt a lot! plus, there were cute guys! haha.. both young and old might i add.. muahahahahhaa..

hmmmm.. looking back, maybe i shud sign up for the camp.. afterall, i did make fizzie sign up for it without me signing up myself (muahahaha)..

i hope it'll be fun ah.. and i hope there would be adequate shower facilities and good food. i've been bugging yan-T for assurance.. haha.. we'll see..
