just a lil' randomness before i dive into the topic im here to write on.

before coming to this page to write my post, i landed on Blogger.com. i saw this huge picture of some geeky guy and naturally, i was intrigued as i've never seen somebody's picture posted on the blogger home site before. As it turned out, the guy in the picture was an employee of Blogger (google) and was leaving the company. They had a lil' write up of the things he'd done for the company (he was the guy who ran the Help section for blogger.com) and concluded by wishing him the best in his next job.

Somehow, it really struck me as "hey, that's the kind of company i want to work for". it doesnt take much for a company to show their employees some appreciation, but let's face it.. name one local company u know that does that. and this is genuine, not like the Employee of the Month crap with the moronic photos we see in Popular, KFC and the likes. That is soooo contrived. google even took it one step further by wishing this guy the best in his future, suggesting that they really cared for him as a person. the fact that they managed to do that in (wat is to me) an authentic manner is really sorta heartwarming. indirectly, it provides a glimpse into the so-called soul of the company which is sooooo rare in our Asian context.

which reminds me of one of maly's recent blog entries about her adventures in New Zealand. she described how warm and friendly the NZDers were. so friendly that they say good morning when they see her through the window of her rented apartment. maly said it made her feel sombong (stand offish) and sorta suggested that Singaporeans should learn to be friendly. i dunno whether to scoff or be hopeful about this. i think essentially Asians are just different, high power distance people.. its generally hard for us to let our guard down and just open up. i dunno y. its so difficult to wrap my head around the entirety of this issue.

The Beijing-ers are so busy learning english and "correcting" their so-called bad habits so as to make foreigners feel welcomed. what are we singaporeans going to do to make the youth olympians feel welcomed? are we even gonna care?

to be honest, i was really hoping Singapore would get it coz it would mean JOB CREATION. and i am, at the moment, a JOB SEEKER, hence the self-serving hopes. i have to say though, i couldnt really concentrate on what lee hsien loong was saying after the announcement coz i was so fixated on the legs of a certain Mr Teo Ser Luck (our illustrious alumni) who stood around looking sexy in his short shorts on national television. Vivien Balakrishnan was wearing berms.. which I think he shouldnt have coz he's got like knobby knees and skinny calfs. sorta look chicken-leggish.

(oh godd i hope i dun get thrown in jail for defamation)

but anyways, i applaud them for at least trying to look young and not so serious. its wayyy better than wearing the ahpek pleated pants. these people have got to learn that pleated pants make u look fat.

sigh..

alas, i have other things to worry abt.. like fyp which is driving me a bit nutso. so thankful to have minah and zhenz around. at least we can still make light of the situation we are in. and it helps that we all have different strengths and different ways of looking at things.. and we all step up at different points to complement each other. hopefully things will turn out well.. if not can kiss second upper bye bye.

sigh.

ive wrote so much that i dun feel like writing wat i originally wanted to write about. so i'll just leave it here hanging.
